The Village of Oakhanger

Oakhanger lies to the northeast of Selborne.  The small village is arranged around the main street with its green, church and village hall, with outlying farms.   There is a mix of houses with some pretty thatched cottages and a village pub, The Red Lion. To the south of the village there is a large space satellite tracking station which is not open to the public.  Within the village are several flourishing businesses including  Springfield Nurseries which is a retail garden centre, and Coomers which supplies retail and trade building materials.

Shortheath Common lies to the north of the village. This is now a nature reserve and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Designated Special Area of Conservation (SAC) which  covers some 143 acres of heath, woodland, lake, pond  and bog.
